3 Key Factors of Our Seriously Great Deck Building *what we do differently

3 Key Factors of Our Seriously Great Deck Building *what we do differently

The Webfoot Difference

Since 2003, our number one goal is making our customers happy. When it comes to building your deck, we'll work with your schedule and budget to get your project done efficiently and to the highest quality.  No one cares more about the success of your project than our team.

Community is one of our core values. Our top priority is serving our community right here at Webfoot. We recognize that Webfoot has a community all its own, starting with a strong team of employees, to our vendor partners, and ending with our loyal customers.

Community also means embracing the Central Oregon community that supports us by supporting local causes and giving to others through Project Serious and other numerous charitable donations and volunteerism. It means we choose to be leaders in the community and inspire others to follow the Webfoot Way. We support volunteerism, we partner with non-profits and serve on their boards and committees, and we behave as first-class citizens within our community. It’s important that as Webfoot grows, our commitment and impact on the community grows with us.

The Webfoot team is made up of reliable professionals who arrive on time, maintain a neat work environment, respect your property and treat everyone in your household with the utmost courtesy.

Us vs. The Other Guys: Deck Building

When it comes to building a deck, we never take shortcuts. There are a lot of right ways to build a deck, and a lot of wrong ways! We build every deck the way it should be built and never cut corners. Here are some of the ways we are different:

  • Picture Framing: This gives the deck a clean, professional finished look and frames in the decking, including any benches and steps.
  • Breaker Boards: “Breaker boards”, or “raceways” again, help create a clean finished look and eliminate the need for random butt joints (where deck boards meet). We only use butt joints in areas where it doesn't make sense for a breaker board. In areas where you need stronger joints, we use mitre joints or a mortise and tenon joint. If you look in any high end decking magazine or brochure, you will see decks with picture framing and breaker boards.
  • Hidden Fasteners: On composite decks, we are using fasteners between the deck boards that attach to the joists throughout most of the deck. You don’t have to screw down the boards in these areas and it creates a cleaner look. The ends of all deck boards, all “picture framing”, “breaker boards” and steps are screwed down to ensure the boards don’t move with the extreme heat and cold we get.
  • Concrete Footings: Some contractors will use pier pads, which are small concrete deck post supports that sit on top of the ground. We dig code size footings below the frost line so they will not move and ensure your deck is properly supported for the life of your deck. Pier pads tend to move over time which can cause sagging in the deck or failure.
  • Finished steps: A lot of contractors will build steps with deck boards on the top but exposed substructure everywhere else. We finish out the steps on every deck we build. This includes the installation of the treads, risers, and handrails (if needed). Steps are a great addition to any deck and provide a safe and easy way for access.

Why Choose Webfoot

Webfoot is your source for everything deck related. Our team is made up of true craftsmen who specialize in the design, layout, care, know how, and maintenance of decks and outdoor living spaces in Bend and surrounding areas. When it comes to natural wood decks and composite decks like Trex…we're the seriously great team for the job. Seriously.

You can turn to Webfoot for these add-ons:

  • Custom Spiral Staircases: These staircases wind around a central pole, taking up very little space. Decking can be added to the steps to blend it in with your existing deck.
  • Cladding: Using a composite cladding (similar to composite decking) on privacy walls or siding around outdoor living spaces is a great way to add a touch of elegance and style to your home. It delivers the rich look of wood without the constant upkeep required with lumber and can match your composite decking.
  • Beam capping: Beam capping is a process of protecting the tops of the beams from the harsh Central Oregon elements. They are typically capped with metal or copper. This helps keep them looking nice, and prevents dry rot from forming on the top. If a beam is not capped or maintained regularly, it is susceptible to failure and dry rot. If beams get to the point where there is rot, it can be too late for repairs, and they will likely need to be replaced. This can be very expensive, especially if it is a support beam that runs into the structure of a house. They are also capped sometimes to add a decorative appearance.
  • Deck skirting: Deck skirting is the space below the deck that is covered with a specific product superior to the old commonly used wood lattice. It is used to protect the area underneath the deck from the elements & critters, and to provide a finished look. Deck skirting can be made from a variety of materials, including wood, vinyl, and composite. And can typically be installed to the deck substructure. Deck skirting can also be used to create a privacy screen or to hide unsightly objects underneath the deck.

Hear from Our Customers

Don’t take our word for it! At Webfoot, we offer unmatched customer service and care, start to finish. Just talk to some of our satisfied customers who have had second story decks built by our team.

"My neighbor next door, who saw my deck, summarized it the best. He said, “my deck was cheaper…but yours is PERFECT.” I am happy to tell people who worked on my deck, not only because the job was so well done, but I know in my heart that it was not a fluke or abnormal, rather it is the way Webfoot takes care of business. So, I am confident when recommending them and attaching my name and reputation to theirs."
