Ready for a quick look at a totally botched deck project? Brace yourself!
While most of the time we’re called because a Central Oregon homeowner has a project idea or repair need, occasionally we get called out to homes because of someone else’s work. In other words, we’re there to fix a problem.
While we’re always sad to see someone be disappointed, or lose hard-earned cash to a less than scrupulous service provider, we do see this as a learning opportunity. For them, sure, but also for you.
This time, our well-intentioned client went onto Facebook or Craigslist to find a “pro,” and it did NOT go well. Case in point, look back at the pictures above.
YIkes, right? Check out the full story (and see all the horrendous pics below - the stuff of carpentry nightmares!).
This homeowner is currently sitting about $8500 in the hole, sadly, and approaching litigation to try and get some of her money back. We’ve seen some bad decks over our years in business, but this one definitely takes the cake!
After this whole debacle, our client went online and researched her contractor. She discovered that he has felony convictions for drugs and arson, has been written up by the CCB on multiple occasions, and just isn’t generally a good guy (to put it mildly).
Saving money is certainly appealing, but is the risk worthwhile? The stress, trauma, and huge legal expenses incurred in this example would say otherwise.
The takeaway? Do you due diligence, and research your contractor BEFORE you sign on the proverbial dotted line. You’re doing yourself a favor, and you won’t regret it.
